Lieutenant Ken Young has been a member of the department since 1991. Lt. Young is responsible for several key areas of the department to include; Campus, Patrol and Special Events. Lt. Young has worked his way through the ranks as a Campus Officer, Patrol Officer, Gang Unit Officer, Field Training Officer, Department Instructor, Patrol Sergeant and Public Information Officer. Lt. Young is a recipient of the following certificates Basic, Intermediate and Advanced P.O.S.T. certificates. Basic SRO, and Public Information Officer Training Certification just to name a few. Lt. Young is currently attending the University of Phoenix.
Some of Lt. Young’s notable accomplishments include; Departments first Public Information Officer, Initiated the current weekly closed circuit televised briefing, Initiated the Care Bear Program, Founding Member of Kops and Kids, Federal Initiative, Weed and Seed Co-Chair, and Initiated the Stranger Danger Program.
Lt. Young is a stake holder in the community as he works with youth in a variety of positive programs. Lieutenant Young takes great pride in his ability to reach troubled boys. His willingness to mentor young people is a true testament to his commitment to the community.
Lt. Young’s past and present affiliations include; I.A.C.P., N.A.S.R.O., N.A.S.S.L.E.O, Crime Stopper (Secret Witness), B.E.S.T. Coalition, Z Squared, One Neighborhood Collaboration, Southern Nevada Gang Task Force, and the list goes on.
